Taki Rua presents the FNZ national tour of

Hatupatu | Kurungaituku : A Forbidden Love.

A story of survival and love between the young

Te Arawa warrior Hatupatu and the unique bird woman that is Kurungaituku. Inspired by the pūrākau from the waka of Te Arawa of Hatupatu and the bird woman, this thrilling aerial production by Taki Rua will envelop you in an immersive multi-media experience that evokes the forests and thermal forces of Rotorua.

In a De La Guarda inspired immersive environment, Artistic Director Tānemahuta Gray; (Māui – One Man Against The Gods, Tiki Taane Mahuta), brings his experience performing with this world leading aerial theatre company, to share this unique performance genre with New Zealand audiences nationwide. Tānemahuta joins forces with Wētini Mītai-Ngātai, leader of the two-time Te Matatini winning national kapa haka rōpū Te Mātārae i Ōrehu to present a contemporary Māori theatrical experience you will not want to miss.

He pūrākau a Hatupatu | Kurungaituku: he aroha āhei kore mō te putanga ki te ora me te aroha o tētehi toa nō Te Arawa a Hatupatu ki te wahine manu i a Kurungaituku. I ahu mai te whakaaturanga nei mō Hatupatu rāua ko Kurungaituku i ngā kōrero ā-iwi nō roto mai o Te Arawa. Ka kōpakina tō aro e te whakaari arorangi toirau nei a Taki Rua, ki te taiao ngahere, ki te ngao o ngā  āwhā o Rotorua.

I whai aweawe atu a Tānemahuta Gray te Kaiwhakarite Toi (Māui - One Man Against The Gods, Tiki Taane Mahuta) mai i De Ka Guarda, ā, ka toia mai e ia ana wheako mahi whakaari me tēnei kamupene whakaari arorangi nei, hei tuari i tenei momo hei whakaaturanga mō Aotearoa Whānui. Ka mahi tahi a Tānemahuta rāua ko Wētini Mītai-Ngātai, he kāea nō te kapa toa i Te Matatini, arā a Te Mātārae i Ōrehu. Nā tēnei mahi tahi i hua ai te whakaari toihou nei.
